FCPX# What’s the Deal?

June 23rd, 2011

We downloaded a copy of FCPX the day it came out and we’ve spent a few hours with it. So far FCPX has turned out to look like iMovie Pro, but we need to spend more time with it to make an informed judgement.

How can I view Flash on my iPhone or iPad?

June 20th, 2011

This is a question that we had been asking ourselves here at PMG, until we came across this little gem. No longer do you have to lament one of iOS’s greatest weakness, the ability to view Flash based websites. Being a video production company we want our clients videos to be visible on all devices and this helps close the gap on millions of iOS devices.

According to this .apps’s publisher you can pay $1.99 and have a browser that supports Flash based websites.

How do I increase my SEO?

June 17th, 2011

Look no further than video. There is a lot of SEO advice out there, some of it bad and some of it good, but we find that a consistent thread throughout the good advice is the value of video to drive your web traffic. It could also help you close some deals and capture the right eyes for your web traffic if you’re a B2B business.

Executives in the executive suite are increasingly turning to video for learning according to Forbes magazine:

A recent Forbes survey of senior executives across the country reveal that 80% watch more online video than they were a year ago.

75% of the executives surveyed said they watch work-related videos on business-related websites at least weekly; more than half (52%) watch work-related videos on YouTube weekly. Download a PDF of the full study here.

If you want to reach those all important executives or drive SEO to your website video is the way to do just that. There is a concept in SEO called “Link Bait”, which means creating enticing bite sized content that is easily shared via social networks, email or any other digital means. The idea is to create engaging content that provides interesting as well as useful information to your audience. One of the best ways to create that content isn’t simply to put a corporate video online (highly polished general brand image videos are still very important to communicate your brand), but to take questions from your audience or stakeholders and create video to respond to those concerns. This gives an exchange between you and your audience and creates a two way dialog with video which does 2 things: makes them feel involved and active in the process and uses a medium that creates a greater response than any other type of media.

There are a variety of types of videos that you could use to create “Link-Bait” or reach out to executives looking for critical information that will provide them with solutions to their business’s problems. The first step in creating a video whether for SEO, corporate image or any other purpose is to start with the last step; where will your video ultimately end up? What is the end purpose of your video and who is your key audience?

Once you can answer those questions this can help guide your goals and you can plan the type of video that you want to create to reach your end goal. At the end of the day video is just a means to an end, an excellent tool, but a tool non-the less. So it is essential to know what you want that video to do and where you want it to appear before you do anything else.

A resource that we at PMG find fantastic is HubSpot and they have some great additional information on boosting your SEO in many ways including the use of video. They define “Link Bait” as

Defining this term as ‘content designed to attract links’ makes it sound a lot like anything else described here. In fact, the term is typically reserved for content that is also highly shareable. Such content often reaches success by being shared widely throughout social media sites first before being linked to by bloggers and other site owners. Examples could include a clever information visualization, creative videos, useful resources, breaking news, quizzes or amusing cartoons. Link bait doesn’t necessarily need to be ‘flashy’ as long as it is creative: a well written ‘Top 10’ list or a simple piece of controversial content could get 15 minutes of fame as the web’s ‘hottest thing’ and get many links from a variety of sources.
